We do not have air conditioning in our guest rooms. We recommend the following tips to allow natural cooling of your room:
• Ensure your room thermostat is completely turned OFF
• Ensure your blinds are lowered to block out the warming sun
• Leave your patio door open, with your screen door closed, to allow air to circulate throughout the room
• Turn on the fan in your room to draw in the cooler air from outside, especially in the evenings
• Turn on your bathroom fan to extract warmer indoor air
• Ensure the bathroom floor heat is turned off
• Avoid prolonged use of the fireplace
For in-room heat turn the fan switch to choose the speed and adjust the thermostat to the desired temperature. The fireplace is also a significant source of heat. For safety reasons, please remember to turn off the fireplace when leaving the room and be mindful of small children or placing objects and furniture too close, as the glass front becomes very hot during operation. Fireplace safety screens are available on request.

Preservation of the old-growth forest and our natural environment surrounding the Inn was a primary consideration from the moment we began planning for the construction of the Wickaninnish Inn.
Minimizing our impact was achieved by constructing the Inn from the inside out, thus preserving the surrounding vegetation and our natural rainforest environment. It started with minimal tree removal on the building site, the use of local products and materials, and the incorporation of recycled building materials. Much of the furniture and wood trim in both our Pointe and Beach Buildings were made from reclaimed Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar, and Sitka Spruce (a great deal of the fir coming from St. Anne’s Academy in Victoria and the spruce from the trees where the Inn now stands).
The bathroom amenities and spa products are environmentally friendly and organic. Other considerations extend to everyday operations and an extensive recycling and composting program. Compostable goods from The Pointe Restaurant are turned into nutrient-rich soil which is then used in gardens and fern beds around the Inn.
From composting to ongoing mechanical system upgrades, environmental product research and improvements and beach cleanups, our Sustainability Committee continues to expand our journey toward sustainability. We are committed to continually improving the Inn’s environmental performance as well as reducing our carbon footprint.
We are proud to be recognized by the Hotel Association of Canada (HAC) as a 5 Green Key property, the highest level of achievement possible, the Vancouver Island Green Business Collective as well as Sustainable Tourism 2030 Gold Award.
